Brief intro on Ocean Acidification – when the ocean absorbs carbon dioxide from the air it’s pH drops. Hence it becomes more acidic. This affects many important things within the ocean, many of which involve calcium.

Moving on to why this is news.
Ocean Acidification is and will continue to kill coral. Recently they have managed to start an experiment that will allow scientists to see exactly how the coral will die and when it will die. This will provide a great deal more information and evidence on ocean acidification. The experiment involves a portion of the Great Barrier reef and if you’re interested in reading about it I suggest checking it out: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/03/180314145016.htm
This is the kind of work we need to see in order to show the importance of ocean conservation.
